Liposuction

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure performed by plastic surgeons to remove excess fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, and arms. The surgeon uses a tool called a cannula to suction out fat, sculpting the body to a more desired shape. It’s not a weight-loss solution but rather a way to address stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. The procedure can enhance body contours and proportion, boosting the patient’s self-confidence.

What is Liposuction using the Scarless Technique

The scarless technique of liposuction involves using tiny incisions, often hidden in natural body creases, making the scars virtually invisible post-recovery. This method focuses on removing fat with minimal invasive tools, leading to quicker recovery and less visible scarring. It's ideal for targeting small areas of fat accumulation and refining body contours. Patients appreciate the subtlety of this technique, as it offers significant aesthetic improvements with minimal evidence of a surgical procedure.

How is Liposuction Performed?

Before the liposuction procedure, anesthesia is administered in the surgical area.

Through a few keyhole skin incisions, a liposuction cannula is inserted under the skin to break up fat.

Afterward, fat is suctioned out until a nice contour is obtained. The number of fat cells decreases after treatment.

Liposuction permanently removes fat cells, altering the shape of the body. Fat that is suctioned out can be used for fat grafting to the face for rejuvenation or to the breast for augmentation.

Suitable Treatment Areas of Liposuction

Liposuction is suitable for treating various areas of the body where stubborn fat tends to accumulate. These areas include the abdomen and waist, hips and buttocks, thighs, arms, back, and the chest area in men. It's also effective for more delicate areas like the cheeks, chin, neck, inner knee, calves, and ankles, helping to sculpt and define these regions for a more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing body contour.

Suitable treatment areas include:
◘Abdomen and waist

◘Hips and buttocks
◘Thighs
◘Arms
◘Back
◘Inner knee
◘Chest area
◘Cheeks, chin, and neck
◘Calves and ankles

How long does Liposuction recovery take

Liposuction recovery typically progresses through several stages, each crucial for optimal healing and results:

Immediate Post-Operative Period

➤ Swelling, bruising, and discomfort
➤ Pain medication will be prescribed and you will wear compression garments to reduce swelling and support the treated areas.

Early Recovery Phase

➤ Swelling and bruising will start to diminish.
➤ Rest and limit physical activity, although light exercise is encouraged

Intermediate Recovery Phase

➤ Swelling and bruising significantly reduces
➤ Light to moderate activities can be resumed

Late Recovery Phase

➤ Most of the swelling has subsided and the treated areas start to show the procedure's final results.
➤ Patients can gradually return to strenous activities

Treatment Process of Liposuction at Covette Clinic

The liposuction treatment process begins with a detailed consultation, where the surgeon assesses your health, discusses your goals, and outlines the best approach for your needs.

Next, a personalized treatment plan is crafted, taking into account the areas to be treated and the desired outcome.

On the day of the procedure, the targeted fat is removed through small incisions using a suction technique. Post-treatment, follow-up appointments ensure proper recovery and the attainment of the desired contours.

Liposuction Fat Removal FAQs

Am I a suitable candidate?

You may be if you are at a stable, and preferably ideal, weight, and are generally healthy. Usually, a “pinch test” will be done on you to assess the amount of bulging fat that is needed to proceed with Liposuction.

How long does it take for a full recovery and visible results?

An immediate improvement may be visible, but swelling will hide your results. Within a few weeks, the majority of swelling should subside for a more visible result. Full recovery and final results will be visible between 3 to 6 months.

How much fat can be removed during surgery?

This depends on your body and goals. The maximum amount of fat that can be removed by liposuction safely is about 10 lbs. Do note that the higher amount of fat removed, the higher the risk of complications. Our plastic surgeon will be able to advise you during consultation.

Will results last permanently?

Fat cells removed from the body through Liposuction will not grow back, and results will last for more than 10 years. However, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and a stable weight to ensure that your new look remains optimal. The overall appearance is likely to change if the body gains a significant amount of weight in the future.

Are there any risks and complications?

Like any other medical or cosmetic surgery, Liposuction has some associated risks such as bleeding, infection, fluid collection, scar, and recurrence of bulge. You can reduce your risk of complications by choosing a seasoned surgeon and by following their instructions for preparation and recovery.

How much is liposuction in Singapore?

The cost of liposuction in Singapore can vary depending on several factors, such as the type of liposuction technique used, the number of areas treated, the extent of fat removal, and the experience of the surgeon. It’s important to note that the cost of liposuction should not be the only factor considered when choosing a clinic or surgeon. It’s crucial to do thorough research, consult with qualified professionals, and consider factors such as their experience, credentials, and patient reviews before making a decision.
